Flachau is a village in the district of St. Johann im Pongau in the Salzburg state, Austria. Its numerous skiing facilities are part of the Ski Amadé network of ski areas, the largest in Europe. A very nice ski village. A few kilometers from Salzburg and the Italian Alps. It is a great location to base and travel the surrounding areas from. We particularly enjoy riding our bikes from village to village with stops for coffee, pastries and lunch. It has been a great spot for us to stop as we drive south through Austria to rest before we continue down to Italy. Our good friend Peter owns a ski home there and we always greatly appreciate his hospitality and friendship even though we do not get a chance to see him often enough.
