Eastern and Central Europe is an interesting combination of the old and new. Cities full of bright lights surrounded by farming villages where horses are still used to till the land and move families about provide an interesting contrast. Those 'bowlegged scarf wearing grandmas' are very evident in the agricultural areas tending their vegetable gardens by hand. Off the beaten track accommodation and food are very inexpensive and 'local'.
